Solid Bike for the Money, Plenty of Fun.

Posted by James Bergeron on 10th Dec 2016

Let me start by saying the last time I road a dirt bike was when I was 12. I am now 35 years old 6' tall and about 175 lbs. We recently bought a house on a few acres so we wanted something to tool around the property on. We have some wooded area that I did build trails in so I have tested it on some rocks, ruts and roots.
So the bike has been great, it starts first kick pretty much every time. I have had it for about 10 days and have road it about 45 minutes a day I would say. Today it took a few kicks to get going but it was 30 degrees outside.
The engine is strong and the bike is quiet, quieter than a lawnmower I would say, so it shouldn't bother any neighbors.
I ride my kids on the front, it is perfect for that, The fairing has two foot holds that work really well for them. They do love it and surprisingly we fit comfortably. Riding solo, the bike feels great to me. Enough power to feel fun, but not feel like it is going to get away from you. It is light so there is no problem throwing it around. The tires aren't great, but they making drifting around turns in the trail pretty easy.
I also bought this to teach my wife how to ride. She picked it up quick, bike is very easy to learn on, She is 5 4" and I would say it fits her perfect. I usually have her start in 2nd gear, 1st is geared extremely low.
I dropped a star from the bike because when it arrived the front brake didn't work, at all. Zero stopping power, the back is perfect. I haven't bleed the brakes yet, but it doesn't look like there is any fluid in the reservoir. Orion swears it was working when it left their shop. Also the chain and chain tensioners are very junky, not a huge surprise at the price but kind of annoying. I built a small 1 ft bump to jump and every time I hit it, the chain stretches out and needs to be adjusted. And one of the chain tensioners broke the first day I got it.
Minor things, the front brake is annoying and I will fix it, but so far I rarely used the brakes at all, the gearing makes the bike slow down pretty quick when you are not on the gas.
The customer service has been so so, I was given the run around for about a week at first. If you call and need some tech advice or want to talk through which bike to purchase, ask for Jason.
We will see how the next 6 months goes, I will update my review. At this point I am considering buying a 2nd one, maybe the top end model to handle jumps more. Like I said it is a ton of fun, to mess around on. I wouldn't take it to any serious trails, but to ride on you property, you can't beat it at the price.

    good bike

Posted by David Eduard Kollaritsch on 3rd Sep 2016

The xg is ok but i find it difficult to find neutral, also, two days after i got it up and running the next morning rear tire was flat, i found that the valve stem had separated from rear tube. Also i ordered black plastic but received white, also ordered a
High rev ignition box that didn't come with the bike. I'm going to notify manufacturer of situation.

    Strong Bike; Great Team

Posted by Unknown on 15th May 2016

The staff at Orion was very helpful with referring me to the Orion 125 XG instead of the SSR 125. They coached me through some issues I had by my own doing. The bike has been running good so far and starts on the first kick.

    Good deal

Posted by Jon on 30th Dec 2015

    7 Months - 17.8 hours - 195 lb rider
Still running ok - like 6 oil changes since new
Complaints - goes into neutral sometimes when down shifting to 2nd and suspension is about shot, but it still gets the job done.

    Nice bike

Posted by Big Al on 13th Jul 2014

Choose this bike based on the frame and I was impressed to say the least. Very stout. The suspension is just ok to me but what do you expect for $700 lol. Overall good bike though.

    Awesome bike

Posted by Scott Hewitt on 25th May 2014

Bought this bike 4 months ago to ride around my property. Was shocked at how nice it was for the money. And the 1 yr bike warranty and lifetime frame warranty is huge a plus. Hard to find companies that stand behind their products anymore. Very happy.
